Wigan Warriors star Jai Field has firmly shut the door on any potential return to the NRL, at least for the foreseeable future. In an exclusive interview with LoveRugbyLeague, Field expressed his contentment with the Warriors, emphasizing the special project they are building together.
Field, a New South Wales native, joined Wigan in 2021 after a release from the Parramatta Eels. His time with the Warriors has been nothing short of remarkable, scooping eight major honours and earning a spot in the Super League Dream Team twice. With a contract extension option for 2028 and 2029, Field seems to be in no rush to leave.
"I'm very content here at the minute, and I can't really see myself going anywhere," Field stated. "We're building something special here at the club, and I don't want to throw that away. The deadline doesn't matter to me; I'm here until the end of next season anyway."
Field's commitment to the Warriors is further solidified by his impressive statistics. With 93 tries in 132 appearances, he has become a cornerstone of the team's success. The recent speculation about a potential return to the NRL, particularly with the emergence of the new franchise Perth Bears, was quickly addressed by Field and even refuted by the Warriors head coach, Matt Peet.
Field's focus is now on the upcoming Super League clash in Dublin, the first of its kind in Ireland. He sees this as an opportunity to grow the game, "Any time you can take the game somewhere and dump it in a city that’s not really synonymous with rugby league, it’s getting extra eyes on the game. That’s what we want. It’s really good for the fans as well, getting to go to places like Dublin."
